Gossaert, Jan

Gossaert, Jan
(ca. 1478-ca. 1533; also called Mabuse)
Flemish painter. His visit to Italy in 1508 helped to introduce Italian elements into his typically Northern style of painting. Classical detail in his paintings Adam and Eve and Neptune and Amphitrite (both about 1516) reflects this influence, while earlier works like his Adoration of the Magi and The Upright Judges are done in a more traditional Flemish style.
